Saturday, 26 November 2016: Our stop at Barragem Pego do Altar turns out to be a lovely surprise and treat! (By the way... Barragem simply translates to dam. They are possibly Portugal's best-kept secret, often abreviated to Bgem on maps.) In an effort to provide sufficient water for the country, Portugal has damned hundreds of rivers. Portugal has embraced Barragems as community areas often allowing fishing, swimming, sailing and windsurfing. What makes them ideal for the motorhomers (that's us of course) is that many have large car parks over-looking the water. A wonderful place to spend the day and/or night or just to stop for a leisurely lunch.
After breakfast we go for a walk across the dam wall and start chatting to a lovely gentleman from Gloucestershire, Chris, who mentions the tasty and very cheap lunch he had at the restaurant a few hundred meters from our 'home'. We decide to go for a walk to the other side following the contour of the dam and then go treat ourselves to the recommended Toastas Mistas (mixed toast) and Galao (long white coffee). Yum! We are not disappointed and enjoy our first (and most probably only) eat out before setting off to our next stop at Porto Covo. As we arrive later than usual, we opt for Pao (Portuguese bread) and spreads instead of a cooked meal. P.S. Pao has been renamed to cow pat by 6fartsinacart.
Sunday, 27 November 2016: Before leaving our stop over-looking the cliffs and sea, we go for a walk along the cliffs to take a few pics. We decide to only do a short trek for the day and stop next to a lagoon with a beautiful view across the beach at Carrapateira to retire for the day. We go for another lovely walk around the lagoon to the beach! Geneve cook us the most scrumptious duck stuffed with onions and carrots, and roast potatoes to finish off our day on a tasty note.
Monday, 28 November 2016: Wake up to a magnificent sunrise! (Well, most of us do. Can't say everyone did.) To the beach for the first proper swim along the Portuguese coast. Okay, only 4 of the farts! Take a guess who didn't. The water is approximately 17 degrees Celsius, and we've got the whole beach all to ourselves.
After a refreshing swim and visit to the beach, we start working our way down along the coast to the lighthouse at Cabo de Sao Vicente where we stop for a late lunch. We then continue to Carvoeira where we park for the night. Late arrival in the dark, so quick and easy meal - couscous with chopped chourico.
Will put photo's on a different blog. Connection so bad it's driving me up poor Merzy's walls.
