16 August 2017, Wednesday: Today starts off rather sadly as the LeShuttle gets booked for the 23rd of August, which will conclude our tour through Europe. The majority vote has fallen on the Eurotunnel as our final crossing. We greet our Belgium friends and head for Hasselt, on recommendation of Carolus. Just as we get to the outskirts of Hasselt we experience our first traffic jam/congestion since the Paris Ring Road. Three-quarter of an hour later, moving at the speed ‘slower than walking’, we manage to get off this road and take a detour entering Hasselt from a different direction. As we have arrived later than anticipated we have lunch before setting off to explore this vibrant town.
4.30pm we are back at Merzy and make our way to a park4night stop at the Schulensmeer near Linkhout-Lummen. A lot less traffic, in fact, quiet and very peaceful. Dad pulls out the barbecue and we have 'braai'ed chicken and turkey kebabs with sausage and stir-fried cabbage. Ice-cream finishes the meal off on a sweet note. After a game of volleyball to work off the ice-cream, and working up a sweat, we all opt for a shower. Family devotions follow and all ready for bed at 11pm.
