Monday, 29 November 2016: As We've arrived in the dark last night, we wake up to a pleasant surprise. We are parked above Praia da Marinha overlooking some pretty amazing limestone cliffs. The coastline has got a remarkable variety of features which can be seen at Marinha Beach: arches and caves at the far western side of the beach, sea stacks at the western and eastern edges and sinkholes (natural wells) that can be seen on the western side of the beach.
After taking some pictures we set off. We stop for lunch in Faro. Then we carry on to Carcelha Velha for another photo-stop. Our idea was to stop at Castro Marim for the night, but after re-consideration we decide to move on to Vila Real de Santo Antonio about 4km away. Although we have to pay 4.50 Euro to park for the night, we are quite happy as it includes filling up with water, free wifi and a view across the Rio Guadiana (border between the south of Portugal and Spain) with the shimmering lights of Ayamonte on the other side inviting us back to Spain.
Tuesday, 30 November 2016: We say goodbye to Portugal as we cross Rio Guadiana (the border) and into Spain again. We decide to do a short trek and stop at the Bienvenidos al Monumento a Colon in Huelva where we 'kiep' for the night.
Wednesday, 1 December 2016: Had some spectacular thunder and lightning during the early hours of the morning. We leave Huelva in the pouring rain. We reach Sevilla around lunchtime, but because of the rain and lack of parking we decide to move on. Let's just say we're blaming Merzy's big butt for not hanging around in Sevilla. Then we get a special treat when a castle pops up just outside El Coronil: Castillo de las Aguzaderas. A real little gem. We decide to have lunch right next to the castle wall where we've parked. We continue our journey down south until we reach El Bosque, a pretty little town on the edge of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park.
Thursday, 2 December 2016: After leaving El Bosque we travel through the most beautiful mountain roads. The mountains are covered with cork trees (that mum can't stop taking photo's of) as well as pine tree plantations. We reach Gibraltar just after lunchtime and stop along the beach to have something to eat. We've got the most amazing view from our stop of the Rock of Gibraltar. We carry on and stop in Fuenfirola next to the beach and just below the Castillo de Sohail for the night.
