Saturday, 14 January 2017: As the temperature has dropped to -6 degrees Celsius throughout the night, we do not feel up to exploring the world outside Merzy's 'protection'. Therefore we decide to cover longer distances. As large snowflakes are flurrying down we leave Seefeld in Tirol, situated 25km north-west of Innsbruck (Austria). We reach Herxheim, which is approximately 25km from Karlsruhe (Germany) late in the afternoon and decide to turn in early.
Sunday, 15 January 2017: Yesterday's long journey did the trick and we all sleep like babies. From Herxheim we aim to cross the border from Germany into Luxembourg. We stop in the center of Luxembourg City at lunchtime and have some lunch after a brisk walk through the center to capture it on film. Soon after leaving the center, we cross the border from Luxembourg into Belgium. Keeping in mind that the width from east to west is only 57km and this land-locked county is only 2 586 square km in size. We stop at the camper-stop in Bouillon, a very pretty setting next to the river, wanting to maybe call it a day. We discover that there is no water coming out of the taps (frozen??) and decide to move on. Soon after we cross over into France and park Merzy in Charleville-Mezieres, which is situated on the banks of the Meuse River, where a few other campers are parked up already. Dad starts chatting to our French camper-neighbour who informs him that the temperature around that region is still going to drop to -10 degrees Celsius.
After a quick and easy creamy pasta dinner, we decide to look at the ferry crossings from France back to England. We manage to find a pretty good deal for a late crossing tomorrow evening and confirm our space paying the ferryman's fee.
Monday, 16 January 2017: We are up very early and leave our stop in Charleville-Mezieres, hoping to escape the on-coming minus temperatures being forecasted by our neighbour. After a seven and a half hour journey we reach Calais just after 4pm. With the ferry being booked for 9:45pm, we've got plenty of time to spare, so Dad decides to ask if we can get an earlier ferry if possible. We are blessed when we get permission to board at 7:30pm. The ferry departs at 7:55pm and we're on our way back to the UK.
