On Our Way.... Yay...

We were told that the blog was 8 days behind. ‘Oom moet maar geduldig wees’. Sometimes you might have to wait for a little while before getting an update.

Now, I know that we’re a camper…bigger than an average car and much slower, but as we are sitting and staring out the window, HUGE trucks are overtaking us. And most of the time we’re not even on the motorway/highway!

So here goes… 27 March 2017, Monday: Left base this morning and drove straight to Dover, taking us approx 5 hours. Dad got mum an iPhone (ooooh) before we left and Emile (who likes to fiddle with new technology) found a camper ‘park4night’ app which allowed us to find places to stop right in Dover. We were spoilt for choice. So after investigating a few spots, we settled for one right next to the sea overlooking the harbour. We could see the ferries leaving and entering the docks.

28 March 2017, Tuesday: Today’s the day… We woke up at 6:00 so that we could be at the port at 6:30. We had to check in an hour before departure, because our ferry was leaving at 7:35. Fortunately we were really close by and we were there spot on.

Our plan is to be in Paris over the weekend, but Mum first wanted to go to Le Mont Saint Michel (which is in the opposite direction), so we drove over 320 km to be able to fit this in before we take the road to Paris. The first place we wanted to stop didn’t have water to fill our water supply and was under a motorway bridge, so we moved on to the next stop. That one was full, so after dumping and filling with water we moved on again. We found a pleasant place in Deauville close to the sea.

29 March 2017, Wednesday: After a lie in we left at 10:00. We then completed another long journey. We reached Le Mont St. Michel around lunch time. After a quick bite we took a shuttle-bus to the island. The whole building structure is really impressive and well worth the detour. It's a medieval town perched atop an imposing rocky outcrop in Normandy. It contains a stunning Romanesque Abbey, medieval church and historic battlements. Apparently this heritage site attracts more than 3 million visitors every year. Now we can be counted as some of them. After a couple of hours exploring it (be warned the steep climb to the Abbey is pretty darn demanding), we decided to walk the 2 km back to the camper. Since we want to be in Paris in two days’ time we paid up and left, travelling for another hour to a quiet camper stop in the direction of Paris. Tonight we are sleeping in Mortain, a peaceful little village.

Discovered that we can't tether with the phone abroad, which means updating the blog will not be as smooth sailing as we anticipated. :(

Please be patient when waiting for updates. :)
