23 June 2017, Friday: We lie in. Today we want to catch up with some washing and work on the blog, as an update is due. Daddy also decides to ‘uproot’ the fridge again as we’re going to stay long enough for it to be left outside Merzy, doing a head-stand… without Emile having to give up his bed. After lunch Oom Terence and Tannie Nelia take Mum, Dad, and the youngest two for a drive through the Gypsy community in Călăraşi where they’ve been working for the last 14 years uplifting the community and sharing Jesus love in a very practical way. Oom Reinhard has allowed us to read his books, so Nikita and I stay… Nikita having a ball catching up on all the lost reading of the last few months. Arriving back from their outing to Călăraşi we have a braai, enjoying chicken, pork, braai-brood and miҫi (type of Romanian sausage). Watermelon and gooey brownies made by Tannie Nelia, finish the day off just perfect! 24 June 2017, Saturday: Oom Terence, Tannie Nelia, and Aimee come to fetch us as we’re going to explore Bucuresti today. We park and walk up the boulevard to the Palace of Parliament, admiring it from different angles. We explore some of the parks and part of the old city and take a break at MacDonald’s for lunch. After getting back to the van, they take us to another huge park, Lumea Copilului, where we take a leisurely stroll through many play areas, fountains, pergolas, and little café’s. Tannie Nelia treats us to warm fresh gogoşi (traditional Romanian sugary doughnuts). Yum! Back at ‘home’ in Rasa we relax around the fire in the fire pit, having the left-overs of last night’s braai. We eventually decide it’s time for bed before the clock strikes 12. 25 June 2017, Sunday: We would like to experience the Gypsy market at Mănăstirea which Oom Reinhard told us about last night, so we get up early and leave at 7.45am as the traders at the market pack up and go home around 11am. Here they sell anything from tools, cooking utensils, clothing and bric-brac to animal feed, fruit/vegetables and animals (chickens, ducks, guinea-fouls, hare/rabbit, pigs, etc.). We leave with two juicy watermelon, baby cucumbers and a bag full of nectarines. We stop at the monastery in the little village to have a look inside. Back ‘home’ we cut the watermelon and laze around as it is really hot! After being on its head for 2 days and being given the shakes quite a few times when passing, Daddy puts the fridge back in its space. At 5pm we go to Călăraşi to visit the church Terence and Nelia attend. We have an awesome fellowship and worship time with this lively group. Before returning to Raşa we decide to try the shaorma’s… the Romanian version of a shawarma. Delicious! Back at oom Reinhard’s place we finish off the day with ice-cold watermelon and home-brewed coffee from oom Reinhard’s Norwegian coffee-machine. 26 June 2017, Monday: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings Oom Reinhard, his wife and a few other at the center visit the baby ward at the hospital to hold and play with the little ones, giving them attention, affection, and love. Mummy and us girls decide to join him. As the hospital staff would like us to adhere to a specific dress-code when handling the babies, we get provided with the appropriate ‘uniform’ and put on our white jacket and mask. We spend time holding and singing to the babies for the next hour and a half. It’s an emotional experience and we pray for Jesus’ love to cover them! Please pray with us for them! Returning back from the hospital we start up Merzy, say good-bye to our wonderful friends and hit the road once again. It’s another scorching hot day. After stopping at Lidl in Urziceni for a quick stock-up and to put in diesel we continue to a spot approximately 7 km outside town and stop at 5pm close to the river under the trees. Everyone is hot and bothered. It’s just too hot to cook, so out comes another watermelon we’ve bought from a wagon/trailer along the road. Emile is one little tired boy and he tucks himself in at 7.30pm. A herd of cows with the ding-dong of their bells come to graze around Merzy. After a cool shower to wash off the sweat we’re all ready to hit the bed.
